Adults who choose to engage in learning activities are mostly driven by intrinsic motivation, rather than external motivators (Merriam and Bierema, 2014, p. 47). Many children are motivated to play because they enjoy winning, but adults are typically not particularly motivated to win random-chance games such as these. For adult learners, the best intrinsic motivation will be knowing that the game design and the social interaction will help them learn quickly.
